As far as the CMS goes, your best off bundling the package with your software. I asked about this once before and the overwhelming majority of people agreed that distributing the package with the software was best. Another thought that came in second was to make two copies of the app, one with PEAR bundled, and the other without. The only real nice thing about that is if someone already hasn't installed and doesn't want to use up the space. Regarding the license... That was tossed around here not that long ago, I'd ref. the archived posts first on that one. I think though consensus was that a custom license needs to specify that the PEAR package doesn't belong to you, and you also need to check on the specific license pertaining to that package (Most, as earlier stated are BSD style.) Hope that helps, - Stan Robert Samuel White wrote:
Hello! I recently discovered PEAR and am very interested in the database abstraction package of it. I was considering possibly implementing this as part of my content management system. I was wondering if someone might be able to point to the answers for the following questions please: - Does PEAR always have to be installed by PHP to work? I'm asking because maybe not everyone has it on their shared servers... If they don't then it would make my CMS incompatible for them...? - If it can be used without being installed, what is the best way to approach this with my project? Should I basically inform them that my CMS requires PEAR and give them a tutorial on how to set it up to work with eNetwizard? - Would there be any licensing issues with me using my own homegrown artistic license: http://matrix.enetwizard.net/license.rsw Thanks in advance! -Samuel
