It looks like you're upgrading from a beta version to 1.2, no? The beta version had some bugs - the w is a warning. You can ignore them, these shouldn't happen when upgrading to 1.2.1. If they do, please do this:
pear install --force http://pear.php.net/get/PEAR-1.2.tgz
pear -vvv upgrade PEAR
and paste the output. Those isolated w's don't happen here, and much much more information is needed to reproduce the error condition. This is probably why you receive no response (people are busy, you must remember this - it's nothing personal :)

I guess I asked this already a while ago, but there was no reaction on that, I am afraid. So, another try. Is this a but, a feature, a quirck of the installer or a faulty installation on my hosts?I'm getting these "w"'s too, and i also asked here what these mean... got no answer at all! Come on, someone from the dev's has got to know what it means? What is the warning about? Why is there a "w"? If it's nonsense and only shows that it's upgrading why don't you kill it from the output? Stephan
