Andrew,
go-pear was broken by Console_Getopt 1.1
This is a serious issue that I am working to resolve. Unfortunately, the people who have the access to take care of this are asleep right now, so it will have to wait 24 hours.
Rest assured, this is a known issue, and considered critical :)

Hi.... I've been able to successfully install several copies of the PEAR installer on our servers....up till now. With the latest version of the installer http://go-pear.org i've come across a permissions problem in that it cannot create a temp directory when installing Archive_Tar or Console_Getopt. The error message is Unable to create directory '/tmp/:Yh02NK'. However, when the script fails I can create the directory with the same user login that I am executing the install command with. I am using the command lynx -source http://go-pear.org | php Any help would be greatly appreciated. Andy
