yep, that's done the trick thanks :-) makes it considerably easier to pre-check boxes than the element method IMHO. to be able to do the following: $oUser->is_acct_active = ($oUser->is_acct_active) ? 'checked' : ''; also allows developers to send out xhtml compliant attributes like <input type="checkbox" checked="checked"> which may look funny but at least keeps the validators happy. cheers demian
