while using ie on a mac, if i copied and pasted example code from http://vulcanonet.com/soft/index.php?pack=pear_tut to my text editor, i got invisible characters that caused php to crash. copying the same code with ie on windows 2000 did not exhibit the problem. [although, it seems the page has been recently updated. i have not retested the problem] the characters were visible (as dots, i believe) in a text editor when show invisibles was turned on. perhaps something similar? mike On Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at 10:12 AM, Young, Eddy ((UK - England)) wrote:

The spaces would not have caused an error: all whitespace (spaces, tabs
etc)
are completly ignored by the parser (unless within quotes obviously). -Stewart -----Original Message----- From: Malcolm Turnbull [mailto:malcolm.turnbull@crocus.co.uk] Sent: 20 March 2002 16:32 To: Jan Lehnardt; Morgan Christiansson Cc: pear-general@lists.php.net Subject: Re: [PEAR] Probably a dumb question but I'm new to PEAR. Now we are getting somewhere ! thanks for the help ! I'd already tried removing the ; from the query but that didn't help... but the point about the space between ) and { got me thinking... I changed $demoResult = $db->query($sql); to: $demoResult=$db->query($sql); // REMOVING THE SPACES which solved the problem. I guess I'm a newbie at PHP too.. BUT now when I test for an error after the I get one bugger... the error returned is : DB Error: unknown error very useful.. The problem is obvious. =) Just remove ; from the SQL query. A ; is only used in SQL clients to separate queries, API's only permit one query per function call
(unless
they have made their own support for ; as most clients have).
this wouldn't cause a parse error in PHP but an error from MySQL. Jan -- Q: Thank Jan? A: http://geschenke.an.dasmoped.net/
