The load issues that caused requests to pear.php.net to be extremely
unresponsive in the past days seem to have been solved with my commit
to include/pear-database.php yesterday.
The problem was that with the upgrade to PEAR 1.4.0 on the box a
gazillion lines of new code was added. And due to an "suboptimal"
glitch in pear-database.php a fraction (*) of this gazillion was
included on each request that doesn't get caught by the content cache.
Which happens quite often on an average day.
To top it, the load has been even lower today than it was *before*
upgrading to 1.4.0, which seems to be a good sign.
(*) But still far enough to cause serious pain.
