I can think of no disadvantages of using only spaces, but I can with tabs. Why should we use tabs then? I don't see "compatibility" with the PHP C code as a real reason, if you formatted the PHP C code with spaces, the 4-tab people would not see the difference, but to the 2/3/8-tab people it would suddenly start looking like it is supposed to. The major difference would be in me with a hole in my head and Andi with a smoking gun. :-)
