after a brief exchange with Wez, i think i'm ready to submit my extension to
PECL
for reference :
initial discussion :

cvs http://cvs.voltex.jp/php-i18n/ (may be
broken)
the issue is naming. the extension provides support for I18N based on a PHP
specific port of parts of ICU (http://oss.software.ibm.com/icu/) . as of now
the extension is named I18N, but as we know, a library with a
similar name exists already in PEAR. what is the policy on situations such
as these ? i would imagine that if the
extension is available, there would be little need for the PHP version, as
it offers functionality far beyond what's
available in the PHP package.
