hello - I would like to propose promoting
https://github.com/johnj/php5-minify into PECL
and creating some space for
it to continue work.
A little bit about minify:
Why - in my employers' multi-tenant environment JS and CSS is regenerated
at runtime on content updates. This minification process was implemented in
userspace which required significant CPU I/O and increased latency.
How - PHP functions around Douglas Crockfords' jsmin.c
Performance yield - 578x-900x faster than the equivalent userspace
implementation.
Stability - the current version has been in in high volume production
environment since November 2012 without any issues.
Admittedly, I don't think minify is ready for a PECL release.
The work that I think needs to happen before I'd feel comfortable w/a
release is:
1) thread safety
2) CSS minification support (most likely based on
https://github.com/soldair/cssmin/blob/master/cssmin.c,
tracks state)
3) package.xml
Feedback appreciated!
