Correct. We would love to be able to host and promote extensions that
link in GPL'ed libraries, but RMS jumps all over us when we do. Our
readline extension has caused us all sorts of grief over the years because
it can be linked against the GPL'ed readline library, but its saving grace
is that there is a BSD licensed library called libedit that it works with
as well. So, you need to find yourself an LGPL, BSD or other such
flexible open source licensed library and use that instead.
