Some things have changed since then (I did say that it was slightly outdated).
I don't think I'm trying anything yet that should not work - its just
simple stuff.
Right. I'm *telling* you that you are. Go read the docs.
I STARTED PLAYING WITH THIS 10 Hours ago and I am not making any progress.
I've read the docs ! I've dissected the driver !
---------------
try
{ $dbh = new PDO('firebird:dbname=study:c:\firebird_1_5\examples\employee.fdb'
, 'SYSDBA', 'xxxxxxxx', array(PDO_ATTR_AUTOCOMMIT => true));
}
catch (PDOException $e)
{ echo "Failed to connect " . $e->getMessage();
exit;
}
---------------
This ONLY works if supplied a full path to a valid database. If the database does not exist, then there is no exception thrown. If the host does not exist there is the normal timeout on waiting, but no exception is thrown.
If I supply this working address as a firebird alias
PDO('firebird:dbname=study:employee'
, 'SYSDBA', 'xxxxxxxx', array(PDO_ATTR_AUTOCOMMIT => true));
It does not work and again no exception is thrown.
Now I've had a play with the ini file setting for path, and I get a different error again.
If I feed the $dsn from the ini file,
pdo.dsn.mydb=firebird:dbname=study:c:\firebird_1_5\examples\employee.fdb
and
pdo.dsn.mydb=firebird:dbname=study:employee
gives me "Failed to connect invalid data source name" yet the first one works works if I feed it direct.
Both of these problems would seem to be bugs, the alias not working and the lack of an exception, and I can't see how any more reading of the notes is going to change anything!
If you are saying that the pdo_firebird driver is simply not ready to used then something more than "Hope it works!" in the change log would be helpful.
You asked for people to test PDO - I can only test it in conjunction with PDO_FIREBIRD which is what I have been doing without much success and telling me to keep digging for more documentation is notm helping :(
*I* have rached the point where I need to get some paying work done, so when someone can provide insite to what I am doing wrong .......
