i'm writing a driver for ole-db, which has native support for Unicode (dbms
supported, of course) in addition to char/varchars. The question is about
the handling of Unicode fields (actually any non ansi codepage).
currently i just return the raw data for any char/unicode column (which i
think is correct). the issue is what the desired behaviour should be for
binding to a codepage column with PDO_PARAM_STR. should we assume just pass
the data uninterpreted to the backend ? is there scope for a driver specific
extension to do limited conversion (based on a connection parameter) ?

BTW Wez, i think the handler for lastInserId should return a string. think
int64 and guid identity columns.....
