Common sense is subjective, and most of us have a different common
sense than gnu common sense about library and how they can be used
or linked ;).
However, please note that has nothing to do with imposing licence
but ease the enduser life. It's mostly due to the GPL licence
itself and distribution. Ie we cannot provided binary pecl package, as
it is linked with a non GPL library, the php lib.

Sourceforge?
Or you may ask the GSL team. Maybe they will accept to publish your
