Hello,
I was looking for a mimetex/mathtex (latex interpreter, converts latex
syntax into GIF images) extension on pecl.php.net but apparently there's
nothing around for that purpose, so I just wanted to know if anybody
would possibly be working on something like that, and if anybody would
be interested. Basically, a good subset of mathematical expressions can
be dealt with by the MathML W3C standard (and that would be enough for
me) but it implies installing a plugin for all Internet Explorer
versions as they do not support SVG generation, and that is not
acceptable for my user base.
The mimetex/mathtex software [1] is licensed under GNU/GPLv2 but the
current inconvenient is it is only running as a CGI in a web
environment, which makes it slightly inconvenient for me to provide to
"download, unzip, run" users of my application (also in GPLv2).
As my latest experience with integrating a library to PECL was not that
good (in the end Sara took over completely for the integration of
libssh), I would be interested in seeing if there is someone I can just
provide some help with or if I will have to try doing it sometime soon.
I'd also like to know if there is some kind of interest for that in
PECL.
Regards,
Yannick
