Depending on your definition of "mathTeX", this may apply only to the most recent release of mathTeX, or to all versions of mathTeX ever written, and, as long as the permission stands, of all new versions of mathTeX--i.e. a blank check. Things will be cumbersome for us if additions and modifications to mathTeX are licensed solely under GPL, and not also released in LGPL. However, the blank check licensing effectively makes it impossible for him to keep mathTeX GPL for all projects outside of PECL. However, I should note that MathTeX was never intended to be linked to as an external library; it doesn't even have a header file. This also makes things a little more difficult when writing a PECL extension for it. This also means, however, that until mathTeX gets its own backend "library" that PHP can use, or we fork mathTeX and library-fy it, GPL's extra restrictiveness doesn't really do anything. http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#LinkingOverControlledInterface might be of interest. -- Edward Z.
