No one needs sarcasm. The answer to it is, "Yes and many times."
The point is, I do not have sysadmin rights. That's why I said "customer."
The point of asking was to avoid fruitless work on an unattainable goal.
I know a local PEAR is possible as a customer. I need to know if a local
PECL is possible as a customer. None of the PECL FAQs, tutorials, or
manuals say as much in so many words. Point me to one that does, and I'll
apologize for asking.
I can't change the PHP installation per se. More specifically, assume I
can't run the various PECL installers, unless you know that assumption is
wrong in typical shared hosting, and I should try. They run Suhosin if it
matters, and I can give you any php_info() that you need to answer.
I can change my own customer directory. It may be that with ini_set() or
similar I can reconfig the paths to point to a local folder holding an .so
file. I do not claim to be a PHP guru. I need help.
The answer I need is a yes/no - it's possible, or it's not, without sysadmin
rights.
