So, just to keep everyone in the loop (I know you've all been sitting
at the edge of your seats), I've decided to just port the C++ module
to a PEAR-style library for now, emulating the behavior of the
original C++ objects as closely as possible.
It occurred to me that while there might be a performance hit for
using uncompliled PHP code rather than the a PECL extension, I can't
stall my project for weeks or months while I figure out all the
nuances of writing a C++ PECL extension.
But I will keep my source code around and once my project gets off the
ground and I have some more time, I may revisit making the PECL
extension to get back the performance gains of that sort of
arrangement.
