Thanks everybody, Thanks Pierre! .. I'm fine with whatever the policy is. Am 08.11.2011 19:03, schrieb Pierre Joye:
- abandonned . not sure what is all about as it is redundant with the previous two states. I will drop that one and move the packages (if any) to one of the other states. There is no "abandonned" state, or whatever it means. Only problem is that such a package is still install-able without notice from pecl/pear. New web site will remove the installer info so that one will have to install it manually and force the install (especially for cases like PDO for example).
What if the original developer requests removal (after wait period and nobody taking over a very unpopular package) to avoid further confusion among users? Not allowing removal makes some sense to me as it makes people think twice if they want to propose "drop and forget" packages. On the other hand, I wonder how popular a central "drop and forget"-package service would be. "Drop and forget" sound appealing for checking feedback and user demand before one commits to maintaining a package forever. Such a "drop and forget"-place could have very strict rules, e.g. automatic removal after n-months and no build service. Whatever... PECL seemed to have worked well without. Ulf
