I've been quietly testing 4.0.2RC1 for the past week or whatever it's been.
I'm not on the qa list, perhaps I'll join.... this is my first post to that
list.
In any case, I'm seeing memory problems as well. zend_alloc seems to be
involved in a number of crashes. That's looking at core dumps they all seem
to have zend_alloc in common and die when they try to free something that
has not been allocated. Or so it seems.
My problem, from a QA standpoint, is that I cannot duplicate the crash in
any small program reproducable in order to submit a bug report. I've posted
some traces to php-dev, but not surprizingly did not get any responses.
Our php programs are quite long (1000+ lines in some cases) and apache
segfaults maybe once every 10 to 20 times a page is hit.
I believe this problem existed in 4.0.1pl2 as well. However it does NOT
exist in 4.0RC2 which is what we consider to be the last really stable
version of php. I'm sure the 4.0 release is also stable, we just stopped
upgrading after RC2.
I wish I had a more informative post, but I can't get things to reproduce in
reliable way, but the current cvs is crashing our systems and it seems to be
zend_alloc related.

Oh yes - and test i am...
i have a major issue -- a sev 1 if you will.
under this configuration..
WINNT4 server
CGi version with IIS4
there seems to be a memory issue....
first off - php completly ignores the memory_limit directive. hence the
problem begins.
i first suspected that memory was the problem as when ever i would execute a
certain script ,
php would just hang. so i went commenting out like by line and i found that
there is actually ONE
line i can remove and it runs, if i add even one more line to the script it
hangs.
the memory tops out at 6140K which - at first i dident have a problem with
untill i found out i could not
tweek the memory.
any help on this issue would be great.
BTW - the program i am testing this on is one i have written which spans
about 15,000 lines of code.
so i am finding quite a few interesteing things.....
thanks
JLS
