What current Linux crashes? It works *fine*. I haven't tested it under Windows though, and I don't think it's a big deal it doesn't work properly for 4.0.4.Zlib is a popular addon, especially if the inbuilt obgzhandler requires it. If this slipped by the QA team I'd be suprised...1) I already mentioned during QA that this thing is broken, I heard of nobody (instead of zeev) who has been able to receive compressed output and we came along that it is broken on win32, I also mentioned several times that it never worked on linux for me and other people If the crash on win32 had been fixed, the current linux crashes could have been avoided
2) also, what qualifies as a showstopper? I would have thought crashes do, but unfortunately zeev negated in a one-line comment (http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=php-dev&m=97696875919208&w=2)No, crashes in external modules don't qualify as showstoppers, definitely not when you're talking about new non-core functionality.
3) what about a policy forcing devlopers to provide basic regression tests for their extensions, it most often is no task needing much effort - how else do we know that specific functions are working in every release without running tests on all of them...The policy is not to do that, simply because you can't force people to do *anything*. They're contributing this stuff for free, you know. Force me to provide a regression test to my MySQL extension - good luck - I won't have time to do that anywhere in the near future. Time to nuke the MySQL extension? :) Zeev -- Zeev Suraski <zeev@zend.com> CTO & co-founder, Zend Technologies Ltd. http://www.zend.com/
