Apparently this hasn't been discussed on PHP-QA yet, so here goes:
Unfortunately, we have given up on having 4.2.0 support Mac OS X properly.
We are targeting 4.3.0 for OS X support instead, and sure enough,
the current development version compiles and works flawlessly
on the platform. If you're interested in testing this, head to
http://snaps.php.net/ and grab a fresh snapshot.
