Instead of the current status system used in the bug reports, how about
using something like it?
The bug starts at 'reported' after a bug report submission. As the steps
that are needed to evaluate the bug are taken, the bug hunter select the
appropriate stage. A description of what each stage is would be used to
help new bug hunters understand what to do. The form should help promote
good bug closing technique. Also, evaluating the status of a bug should
only require a glance....
Any thoughts? I feel that this may be too complex... however, I will
continue on working on the system til at least I have some functional roughs
for people to play with. At that point, we can more easily evaluate how
useful or necessary each feature in the system is.
