I alreadys started to create a systems for automatic testing (like
the weekly cvs compile you mentioned):

The result should be test failed true/false to make it easy to SEE if
a test failed. The format to exchange the information should be as
flexible as possible, i would suggest WDDX.
An example could be http://php.nohn.net/autotest-stats.php
But:

1.) I posted it some time here, nobody even answered me.
2.) A feature like described in http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=20184
would make things much easier
