Php as DSO

Does anyone know why after successfully compiling php3 and/or 4 as a DSO, my
httpd fails to start, yet prints no errors in any log files?
I realise this is not a lot of info, but I figure someone else may have
experienced the same thing, and might remember off the top of their head
what was wrong.
