With PHP 4 about to go final I might as well make sure / take some
responsibility for / coordinate that ODBC works well in PHP 4. (Unless
someone else tells me they want to do that right now.)
To smooth the process (avoid conflicts) I would like to know (from _you_):
- are you using ODBC ?
YES
- which database
Oracle, SqlServer, Sybase, Informix, Virtuoso, Progress, Ingres, Access
- which operating system
RH Linux 6.1, FreeBSD (php)
WinNT, Win2K, Linux (database servers)
- which Web server
Apache
- which version of PHP
v3.0.13, and v4.0b4 (modules)
- are you changing PHP source yourself ?
No
- are you actively changing PHP's ODBC functions
No
- are you compiling yourself or are you using the built binary ?
(would you notice if something breaks?)
Yes
- which compiler environment
gcc
- whatever else you think matters
An ODBC driver manager is necessary before implementing drivers; a fact that
folks often miss the first time.
My .02 would be to build the lgpl iODBC driver manager in by default -
individual driver choice would still remain with the user, but driver
manager issues would resolve, cut down initial confusion, and allow
out-of-the-box application connectivity for any databases with free drivers.
Best regards,
Andrew
