Running Linux Redhat 6.1, Apache 1.3.11, PHP4b4pl1 we were doing 13
requests per second and transferring over 4 gigs of data every 24 hours.
This is an AMD 380mhz machine with EIDE drives and 384 megs of RAM.
We have absolutely no problemo doing over 1 million hits a day, which uses
less than 10% of memory and cpu. No crashes, no restarts, no segfaults, no
cores.
The open source products (Linux, Apache, PHP) are far, far better better
than anything you can get from Microsoft (which thinks that it invented
symlinks a couple of month ago).
expensive != works good
