If their apache is configured with mod_so (dynamic module support), compile php4 as a dynamic module and then just add the following lines to your httpd.conf LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so AddType application/x-httpd-php .php AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps To build php4 as a module you'll want --with-apxs=$(PREFIX)/bin/apxs --enable-versioning in your php4/configure script. BTW, if you want to run BOTH php3 and php4 on the same server, the php3 should also have the enable-versioning switch (I think. That's how I do it here). I attach a makefile which with a couple of changes should perform all the neccesary magic. You'll probably want to remove the cvs-updating bit :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Derek Sivers" <list@hitmedia.com> To: <php4beta@lists.php.net> Sent: Thursday, March 16, 2000 2:50 PM Subject: [PHP4BETA] how to install PHP4 without recompiling Apache? > If I'm on a Linux/Apache server that has Apache already nice & configured, > but without PHP4... > > How can I install PHP4 *without* recompiling Apache, > but *with* all the regular Apache/PHP features? > > > Ok - I'll admit - it's a Cobalt RaQ. > They have the RPMs for PHP3, but I want to use PHP4. > But their Apache is so strangely configured I don't want to do a fresh > Apache from scratch. > > > > Thanks!! > > > Derek Sivers > list@hitmedia.com > > > -- > PHP 4.0 Beta Mailing List <http://www.php.net/version4/> > To unsubscribe, e-mail: php4beta-unsubscribe@lists.php.net > For additional commands, e-mail: php4beta-help@lists.php.net > To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php4beta-admin@lists.php.net >
