I'm on RedHat 6.1 running on a Pentium. I'm trying to make PHP 4 Beta 4 patch level 1 with Apache, MySQL and a couple of other options. Here's my directory structure: /root/php/php-4.0b4pl1/ PHP source, including configure, etc.
/root/apache/apache_1.3.11/ Apache source, including configure, etc.
# First, I start the Apache configure... cd /root/apache/apache_1.3.11 ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache \ --activate-module=src/modules/php4/libmodphp4.a # Then I do the PHP configure, make and make install... cd /root/php/php-4.0b4pl1 ./configure --with-mysql --with-xml --with-gd --with-ttf \ --with-apache=/root/apache/apache_1.3.11 make make install # No errors so far. Sascha Schumann politely told me to RTFM, which helped me solve the problem: a bad Apache configure command. Here's what worked: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache \
       --activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a
