Hi Avrum,
I'll keep any future replies to this subject off this list; don't want to
clutter it up with plugs.
This reply speaks more to architecture than Openlink's licensing though.
Bascially, with and ODBC connection between Apache, PHP and a database, with
everything on the same machine, your database should experience exactly one
client. If not, there is a security issue at work. In fact, I would
recommend configuring your database connection in such a way that request
from IP addresses other than the local machine are refused.
Here is the tricky part, however - you may experience many concurrent
connections with that one client. With multiple apache's delivering
content, you will get multiple requests for data from the PHP engine. While
this will probably not approach a 1:1 ratio of users:connections, it could
theoritically approach that if you had _all_ of your resultant content
stored in a database, and just filled template skeletons with pulled data.
Openlink's drivers download with a free, non-expiring license that allows 2
users:10 concurrent connections. The 2 users will be more than you need,
here, or allow your webserver full access, and still give you an
administrative connection should it be needed. The 10 conncurrent
connections, however, will be used up faster than you think. Please feel
free to build it and see for yourself, but don't be surprised when you see
100 users come in and some get bounced (or forced to queue if you allow for
that in your php code).
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Andrew

Thanks.
Now how does this work when used with php?
That means that my client is the same machine as the server, so I only need
one
client license, and since my php connections are quickly opened and closed,
chances are that I could get by for a long while with the minimum number of
conncurrent connections. Is all this correct or am I mistaken in something?
I am downloading the evaluation package now - perhaps its explained in the
docs.
