Additional info i just discovered is that if you don't have
extract() overwrite existing vars, then it will work fine like so:
This works with the pre-existing var commented out:
// $DED = 1;
if(mysql_num_rows($result) == 1) {
$appstuff = mysql_fetch_array($result);
extract($appstuff, EXTR_OVERWRITE);
}
echo $DED;
