Because, than one can be sure that all Apache modules use the same library
and headers files!?
I had the following problem:
* configured mod_auth_mysql with MySQL 3.22.32
* configured php4 with the bundled MySQL 3.23.10 library (didn't have a
chance to change this... and didn't know the version at the time...)
Now every time I accessed a page which was protected via mod_auth_mysql,
apache crashed...
After debugging apache I found the reason:
mod_auth was configured with MySQL 3.22.32 header files but was linked
against the bundled MySQL 3.23.10 library. Unfortunately, the size of the
MYSQL-struct changed between this two versions.... The mysql_connect call
uses bzero to reset the MYSQL structure and overwrote (due to the size
change) some internal variables of apache which later on caused the crash.
After installing a recent MySQL 3.23 version (just for mod_auth_mysql)
and configuring mod_auth_mysql against this version, everything works fine
again.....
Is there a specific reason, why I have to use the bundled library and can't
use an already installed version?
Oliver
