Caveat - I am a UNIX user, and I've only done Windows 2000 out of
necessity (ease my supervisors' fears). I've been working on Win
PHP/MySQL only this weekend... but this might be helpful for some of you
out there:
I've seen a couple of messages about IIS and the "Access Violation"
error. I was having similar trouble with Windows 2000 and IIS 5.0. In
my experimentation, I had changed the "Anonymous User Account" password
procedure. Changing it back fixed my errors. Here's what worked for me:
1) in the IIS manager (whatever it's called), right click on your PHP
directory and choose "Properties"
2) choose the tab "Directory Security"
3) hit the "Edit" button under the "Anonymous access..."
4) click "Edit" under "Anonymous access"
5) under "Username" browse for "IUSR_<hostname>", select it and hit
"Okay"
6) check the box "Allow IIS to control password"
Notes: in the "Authentication Methods" dialog, I have unchecked
"Integrated Windows authentication" and I have checked "Basic
authentication..."
I did this out of compatibility fears (UNIX, BeOS, Mac, etc. users). I
don't know much about NT, so if someone knows that it's cross-platform
safe to do otherwise, please let us know.
