I think, you want to position PHP as a native, how about the zend architecture I saw that solution will be like Java, is zend will build a bytecode or an executable? It will look like java, isn't it? > > - Lots of libraries, > > True, Java probably has more libraries. I think the problem is Java is supported by a SUN. Sun is a company and have a big capital and more researcher. and the new alliance Sun with Netscape called iPlanet, is produce a B2B an Enterprise Software solution, using EJB, and compete with Clarus (I think it used Microsoft Technology), Webmethod, Oracle (with his Developer 2000). I have a meeting with iPlanet people here, and iPlanet produce Business Component writing in EJB, it look like a BAPI from SAP R/3. I don't know when PHP will build this. Who afraid with his library, if php_java module, can used them with and PHP will working with them faster. > > Database calls are very much database-dependent, changing database > > used might be a lot of pain.. > > I really hate this point. How often do you change databases in a > project? However, we are adding a > database abstraction layer in PHP 4 so this silly argument will go away. I try to create a DAL, a collection of database syntax, several I got from pre.php a source from SourceForge. I see PHP parsing that every time it is executed (and it is an interpreter). I wish if there is a universal syntax to access all database natively, yah like Microsoft ADO or DAO or RDO. The DAL will connect to the PHP module. Frans
