By definition, an application server is:
"a program that combines several technologies into one package, including:
1) A robust programming language
2) Access to databases for permanent storage of data
2) Support of Internet protocols, such as email and HTTP"
PHP clearly fits the bill of an application server (like Cold Fusion), even
though we often don't think of it in this way.

Wow, I think that's the first time I've seen PHP called "application
server". What's Zope then?
