Yes I´ve executed that statement from a commandline-like windows client (similar to myAdmin for MySQL) for Adabas,
of course I can query its system tables directly, but in the docs is said that "EXISTS TABLE foo" is the fastest way, unfortunately Adabas does not accept the select version "reserved identifier not allowed", is SELECT EXISTS Ansi???
BTW, why is it a problem if some other function returns a value instead of SELECT? Is it in the specification that SELECT only should return values?

Hm, this is not ANSI SQL, but I see problems anyway: Anything returned from a sql statement should be passed to the caller via select, e.g. "SELECT EXISTS TABLE foo from dual" (that's the Oracle dummy table). Did you try your statement from any odbc commandline client? -Andreas
