As part of my initial experiments on PHP4/XSLT integration I tried to
get the ext/java module working on Solaris. I had a very hard time of
it - a few hints :
- in java.c, replace all occurrences of "JAVALIB" with
"W32_JAVALIB". The name conflicts with "JAVALIB" as used in the
build process
- add "-L /usr/java/lib" somewhere in config.m4 (sorry I can't be
more precise; I ended up doing builds mostly by hand), otherwise
ld.so complains of undefined symbols
- the module is very sensitive about values entered in php.ini, esp.
(for some reason) the java.class.path entry. Here's what my setup
looked like :
[java]
java.class.path=/usr/home/laurent/src/php-4.0.0/ext/java/php_java.jar
java.library.path=/usr/home/laurent/src/php-4.0.0/modules/
extension_dir=/usr/home/laurent/src/php-4.0.0/modules/
extension=/usr/home/laurent/src/php-4.0.0/modules/libphp_java.so
At this point I was able to run through the example "jver.php".
However, anything a bit more complex than the sample code in jver.php
broke everything. Even calling toString() on something as "simple" as
the Properties returned by System.getProperties() didn't work.
Also, I ended up questioning the value of creating a whole new JVM
for every httpd process - sour grapes, you might say... But given
that the idea is to go a step beyond my current setup (mod_jserv plus
Saxon plus a small servlet) toward something more "organically"
integrated into PHP4 for performance reasons, ext/java doesn't look
too good.
At present (as mentioned in another thread) I am more optimistic
about pulling in an XSLT processor on top of ext/domxml.
Enjoy,
