(cc-ed to the list for the archive) > OK, I built it from Apache-1.3.6, PHP 3.0.9, and: I've tried APXS and static build (--with-apache), both work. You might have more success with the CVS version which uses a better library order (but read on). The problem is, as I said before, an interpositioning problem related to dynamic linking. Both libc and libsybdb define a symbol "dbopen" which leads to the crash, because httpd calls indirectly libsybdb's dbopen. Now, Apache doesn't crash at the beginning, as you observed it, but now the "dbopen" symbol from libsybdb _might_ not be available at all. This could make that library fail completely instead. This problem isn't restricted to FreeBSD 4, it will also happen on GNU libc 2 based systems which have dbopen in libdb. I'd recommend to change the name of the symbol in libsybdb, if this is not part of a public interface. -- Regards, Sascha Schumann Consultant
