There already is a very clear distinction between 3.0 bugs and 4.0 bugs. Just add "WHERE php_version like '4%'" to the appropriate queries, as I did on the version4/ pages. I don't understand your problem with this. The only difference between the previous version4/ page and current one is that bugs will start at a higher number, and you can get at the PHP3 bugs if you type in the bug number manually.
I couldn't understand from what you've written that the pages are still separate for (almost) all practical purposes, except the numbers would start higher. One practical difficulty now is that you can't tell between PHP 3.0 bugs and PHP 4.0 bugs from the Email notifications.
Please undo any changes you made to merge the two databases. No.
If you make changes to something that aren't agreed upon with the relevant parties, you can't do them and expect to have your way with it just because you're the one who did it. In this case, you've made your point and convinced me (after clarifying that you're essentially doing the same thing as I did, except it's in the same database), but until you did, you shouldn't conduct one sided changes like this. This answer is not very mature either (you act as if you're the one to give the final decision, which you're not). Right now I don't mind keeping it that way, if you change the Email header of the PHP 4.0 related bugs to clearly state they're from the PHP 4.0 bugs page. Zeev
