At this point, I'd personally like to ask all of the developers to avoid
adding new functionality to PHP 3.0.x, and concentrate all, or at least
most of their efforts in version 4.0. A first step would be migrating
all
of the patches and updates made between PHP 3.0.6 and 3.0.11 to PHP
4.0; The fact they're missing prevents a lot of people from switching.
As a rule of the thumb - if you're implementing new features, implement
them for version 4.0 first. If you have time and will left - migrate
them
back to version 3.0; Doing that will ensure that PHP 4.0 always
contains
the latest and greatest code base.

I was kinda wondering about that. Why would you continue development on
php3
when 4 came out? This seems like sort of a split in resources which
cant be
good for php4 in its infancy. Do people just not feel confident in
php4? I
have read about all I can about it, and it looks great. I am currently
running
3.0.9 but plan to convert to 4 soon. I have to agree with Zeev here, if
we
want to make php4 kick ass we need to concentrate on it, not refining
php3.
