[PHP4BETA] fopen-wrapper and sockets

One thing I never really looked into, and I happened to look into a tad bit while developing Zend, is the way we handle sockets in the fopen wrapper. Is there any reason at all, other than historical reasons, that sockets aren't handled in a 100% transparent way within the fopen wrapper? For some reason, we have the same variable games around php3_fopen_wrapper to fdopen() the socket, etc. If there's no reason for this, this code should move into the wrapper itself...
