dbm and dba problems

Do the dbm routines work on 4.0 (I undid the '#if 0', but still got the same results [which was dbmopen is undefined], although the dbm symbols propagated through the libs up until the httpd binary [why it disappeared there, however, I don't understand]). Also, the dba functions always return an unknown handler error (despite the appropriate libs being linked in). Has anyone else had problems with these things? Or have these extensions just not been ported to 4.0 yet? Justin PS: I apologize if this has been addressed before, but I was not able to find anything on this topic elsewhere.
