Did you folks know that PHP4 Beta2 leaves defunct Oracle shadow processes
every time a page is accessed ?
( At least on PHP4 Beta2/Apache 1.3.9, Linux RH6.0, Oracle 8i EE v8.1.5_01 )
This is most likely due to either (a) incomplete cleanup during the
Oracle-connection takedown, or (b) no SIGCHLD handler.
Has this already been addresed in the current CVS ?
Run any connect/disconnect page a few times through your browser, and then
do this from the UNIX command line: 'ps -ef | grep defunct'
You should see the same number of '[oracle <defunct>]' processes as
accesses to the page.
(I use the OCILogon() and OCILogoff() functions, because the ora_*()
functions won't connect to my Oracle 8.1.5 ).
Here's a sample script, for the incredulous:
<html>
<head>
<title>
Title
</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#d8d8d8">
<font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">
<center>
<?
$conn = OCILogon("reader","reader");
if ($conn) {
print "<center><bold>CONNECTED</bold></center>";
OCILogoff($conn);
} else {
print("Can't connect to database !!<BR>\n");
}
?>
</font>
</body>
</html>
