Ok ive tried the --disable-inline, and it didnt make as much of a
difference as i would hope ... here's a
part of a top to show u the situation. (Note this is my testing machine,
not production server, incase
anyone sees a hole there, it wont work on the actual reviewboard site
:P). As you can see the machine
has 256 Megs of RAM, and 400something megs of swap space. The CPU is a P
III 550. (SCSI disk).
With php3 i was able to easely do about 60 clients on this config, and
have enough diskcache etc left.
Now with php4 and even with the disable-inline, it starts swaping like a
madman @ 45 httpd clients.
As ull notice on the dump, the CPU can take a lot more (there's a Mysqld
running on the same machine
btw, doing persistent connections), but the machine is swaping like
crazy (30 megs swap used, some of
which are mysqld's and httpd's it actualy needs. This causes a severe
performance hit!!)
without further adue part of the top dump:
CPU states: 76.4% user, 7.6% system, 1.3% nice, 14.5% idle
Mem: 258192K av, 255424K used, 2768K free, 49168K shrd, 5240K
buff
Swap: 481940K av, 28960K used, 452980K free 9120K

The compiler i use is gcc 2.95.2. CFLAGS= -O2. Configuration for php4b3
RC3 is :
./configure --with-apache=../apache_1.3.9 --with-mysql --with-zlib
--enable-sysvshm=yes
--enable-sysvsem=yes --enable-debug=no --with-gd --with-ttf
--with-readline --with-gettext --with-ftp
--enable-track-vars --disable-inline
apache config:
./configure --prefix=/home/httpd
--activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a
ps testing tool i use to test these releases is http_load
(http://www.acme.com/software/http_load/)
i strongly sugest this program to anyone who wants to do some serious
load testing.
