hi,
first of all i'm IMPRESSED, just ran a few computing intensive scripts,
and they are so much faster, that i can imagine what zend/php4 will do for
my products!!!! (great!!!!)
currently i cannot run a single page from my system, but that's 'cause i
need to fix all the oracle-related stuff for php4 (which i will do soon!)
+ some stuff that has already been mentioned by kristian (i thinki getting
phplib running will be a "real" milestone)
i think our 1st goal should be that php4 is backward compatible to php3
(as we all agree) - that, and ironing out all the "new" bugs should be
goal no. 1.
the people will then have a GOOD reason to "jump on the php4 waggon" -
increased speed and better language constructs...
the reference stuff, and resource allocation will make it possible to
create even more complex things, - that's a great thing as well.....
one thing that's important is that we get the CVS mails going, and that
core (who else?) decides how to move ahead on the php4 (not the parser but
the module) side (file restructuring, things that were in 3.1 etc) -
that means that we (the beta-testers and later php-dev) will get things
forward as well.
zeev and andy, you did a great job, and you've opened a whole new
perspective for the next major release of php - in my opinion we should
stay in "closed-beta" as long as we have prio 1 problems in the parser and
core hasn't decided what will/should be part of 4 - core should then
annonce what's on the list for 4.0 final (as opposed to have a "silent"
3.1 development) - i would love to see php4 as a big step into then next
century (for web-development)!!!!
as far as i'm concerned i will try to be a part of all that as much as you
let me, and as much as my time allow me...
zeev, you were asking for also positive feedback - this is not very
technical - but at least it is feedback;-)
