I agree that it would be really cool for devices such as Palms and Psions
and ht elikes but the point for WAP, at least at this stage is really to be
able to use with mobile devices that have "on-board" access to the internet,
because it involves browsing stuff. Devices such as the MC218, which is WAP
compliant USES the wap component as the browser, hence WML doesn't really
lend itself to this kind of practice...
Thereby not implying that it's a bad idea, because it isn't, I just dont see
how that would happen via WML unless we are talking server-based storage,
which as you said isn't really useable for offline use.
Also if you go to wapforum.org you will find that it says "The de facto
worldwide standard for providing Internet communications and advanced
telephony services on digital mobile phones, pagers, personal digital
assistants and other wireless terminals" more or less implying that the goal
is not to be able to support offline mode...

I doubt WML will be able to use any persistant storage, at least from what I
have played around with yet, as far as I can see from the WML and WMLScript
reference it doesnt support cookies or anything that can be stored on the
phone, I might be wrong...
What would be nice would be if WMLScript would be able to use standard
components included with some handheld devices, for example the "Jotter"
application with the MC218 or the calendar with the 7110...

Agreed.
