Is there a way to "hide" the code?

Hello, I'm wondering if there is a way to make some php source files unreadable for everything else than php? I think the comming zend compiler/optimizer will do that but i would need to do this in about 1-2 months from now and i guess the compiler would take longer time than that to be released. Just hiding the files aren't good enough since not even the root user on the remote site should be able to see the code.
