mysql - am I missing something?

OK, so I have now compiled libmysqlclient.so - previously I only had the statically linked library on my server. I've recompiled php. And I still get the message Cannot load /usr/lib/apache/libphp4.so into server: /usr/lib/apache/libphp4.so: undefined symbol: mysql_store_result Am I missing something obvious here?
