I'm trying to build Apache/PHP4/Openlink. Here are the vital statistics -
IBM RS6000, AIX 4.2.1 PowerPC, PHP4 CVS version, Apache 1.3.11.
I have Openlink set up and talking to my database via odbctest. I have
compiled PHP4 using --with-openlink (adding --with-iodbc=/path/to/iodbc
doesn't seem to make any difference). The LIBPATH environment variable is
pointing to /usr/local/openlink/lib. When I compile Apache, I get the
following error message:
./gen_test_char >test_char.h
Could not load program ./gen_test_char
/usr/local/openlink/lib/libiodbc.a is not executable or not in correct XCOFF
format
Could not load library libiodbc.a
Error was: Exec format error
make: The error code from the last command is 255.
Now this looks like the libiodbc.a file has some problems (BTW, the file is
indeed there, and seems to have the proper permissions). So I changed
LIBPATH to point to /usr/local/lib, where I have the version of libiodbc.a
that I compiled from the libiodbc-2.50.3 package. I can get then get Apache
to compile properly, but then I get core dumps in Apache when trying to
access the database from a PHP script.
I suspect that the iodbc that I compiled is the problem here, since I get
coredumps in odbctest when using the version of this program from the
libiodbc-2.50.3 directory. In fact, a comparison of the backtraces from
Apache & odbctest looks very similar to my (untrained) eye.
So I guess this boils down to a couple of questions, which now seem kinda
off-topic (sorry):
1. Is the problem with compiling Apache against the Openlink version of
libiodbc.a easily solved? If so, then maybe that's the easiest way to solve
this. I'm sure it's possible that I downloaded the wrong version of the
client components, though I believe I did get the ones for AIX 4.2 Power PC.
2. Am I doing something wrong when installing iODBC-2.50.3 that's causing
the coredumps? All I did there was unpack the tarball, run ./configure,
./make, ./make install. Not much to screw up - is there?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Brian
