We collected a list of user group information for php|architect. We could share that with you. I believe Zend also has a list of UGs that we should see if they would share as well. That would give us a good start. We could also post a message to the user group leaders list and ask them to submit the info for their user groups. I'd be happy to work on gathering the info for this if you'd like. Beth On 5/20/2011 2:15 AM, Hannes Magnusson wrote:
Someone already started a 'usergroup handbook' in the wiki[1], which has a chapter about sponsorhips which could be expanded to cover website offerings maybe. I however would love to be able to show a list of UG somewhere prominent on php.net.. -Hannes [1] https://wiki.php.net/usergroups On Fri, May 20, 2011 at 06:45, Elizabeth Tucker Long - Treeline Design, LLC<beth@treelinedesign.com> wrote:
I think this is a good idea in theory, but in practice, I'm not so sure as then php.net would be responsible for making sure that the domain is pointing to the correct location and that it hasn't been taken over by a less-than-savory site or vandalized by an unhappy ug member. Then again, maybe I'm being overly paranoid, but I'd rather keep all php.net content under php.net control. We could, however, put up a page giving UG leaders helpful hints on where to get hosting space and/or domain names as no one should be paying $75 a year for domain registration. GoDaddy is only $12 a year, and many other places are even cheaper than that. Also, most hosting plans include a free domain registration with the plan. Beth On 5/19/2011 9:44 PM, Joel Simpson wrote:
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had done any thinking (or deciding) around the possibility of providing user groups with<groupname or cityname>.php.netsub domains. For example http://seattle.php.net which would point to the user group's hosted environment. This could serve to bring useful content within the php.netdomain without too much overhead and would save the user groups from having to spend $75 a year for domain registration.
