User group domains

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had done any thinking (or deciding) around the
possibility of providing user groups with <groupname or
cityname>.php.netsub domains. For example
http://seattle.php.net which would point to the user
group's hosted
environment. This could serve to bring useful content within the
php.netdomain without too much overhead and would save the user groups
from having
to spend $75 a year for domain registration.
